Born in New Orleans and trained by Lorenzo Tio, Jr. in Chicago, Simeon played and recorded with “Jelly Roll” Morton, toured with King Oliver’s Dixie Syncopators, performed in Chicago with Erskine Tate, and spent 10 years with the Earl Hines Orchestra. After playing with Jimmie Lunceford’s orchestra from 1941 until 1950, he recorded with Kid Ory’s Creole Orchestra and spent the last period of his life with the Wilbur de Paris Band, with whom he made many recordings. “One of the best New Orleans clarinetists, he was [also] heard to advantage on the alto and bar[itone] sax in his big band years.” (The Encyclopedia of Jazz, Feather). Signed just a few years before his death from throat cancer at 57. With the original envelope and in fine condition.
