HEIFETZ, JASCHA. (1901-1987). Russian-born, American violinist. SP. (“Jascha Heifetz”). 1p. Oblong Small 4to. N.p. 1954. Inscribed in dark blue ink in the lower right corner to Jonnie Cott. A striking black-and-white, head-and-shoulders portrait of Heifetz playing the violin taken by Karsh of Ottawa and signed in the print.

 

Heifetz began his musical lessons at age three and was performing outside his native Russia by eleven. On October 27, 1917, having fled the Russian Revolution by way of Serbia, he made a memorable American debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Heifetz is celebrated for his conscientious musical interpretations, as well as his flawless technical and tonal abilities.

 

Slightly trimmed with light wear along the edges and in very good condition.
