GRANADOS, ENRIQUE. (1867-1916). Spanish pianist and composer; creator of the piano suite and opera Goyescas. AMusMs. (Unsigned). 1p. Oblong Folio. N.p., N.d. A complete waltz entitled Tempo De Vals, an F Major piano work comprised of 46 bars on two staves and with dynamics noted in several places.

Granados first found success in his native Spain with Maria del Carmen, and after the 1898 Madrid production of this zarzuela, the composer was decorated by the king. His greatest triumph was his Goyescas, an homage to Francisco de Goya, Granados’ favorite painter, which premiered in Barcelona in 1911. Following the 1914 performance of Goyescas at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, Granados was inducted into the French Legion of Honor. In 1916, while returning home from a performance of Goyescas at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, his ship was torpedoed by a German submarine in the English Channel, and the composer and his wife perished.

Accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Granados son-in-law, Dr. Antoni Carreras. The letter notes that the manuscript, marked in red with the number 97 and the file number C-I9-I4 in blue ink, is an original piece in the hand of Granados from the music archive of Enrique Granados Campina.

Some overall age toning, splitting at the folds and tape stains affecting nine measures. Slight paper loss at the left and bottom edges. In fair condition. Rare.
