RACHMANINOFF, SERGEI. (1873-1943). Russian romantic composer and one of the century’s greatest pianists. TLS. (“S. Rachmaninoff”). 1p. 8vo. New York, November 28, 1932. On his personal stationery to Helen Mobert, a publicist at NBC Artists Service.

Please accept my sincere thanks for the book on the ‘Art to be a Grand Father’ which I found upon my return to this city and which I am going to read with interest…”

Just before the October Revolution in 1917, Rachmaninoff left Russia, eventually settling in the U.S. where the demand for his concert appearances assured him of a steady income. Though Rachmaninoff continued to compose, he maintained a hectic pace of concertizing until his death and is remembered as one of the greatest concert pianists of all time.

Rachmaninoff had two daughters, the youngest of whom, Tatyana Sergeyevna Conus, was expecting her first and only child at the time of our letter. Rachmaninoff’s only grandson, Alexandre Borisovich Rachmaninoff-Conus, was born in Paris on March 8, 1933.

Our letter is written to an employee of NBC Artists Service, the talent agency which managed Rachmaninoff’s career.

Folded with some creasing. Broadly signed and in very good condition.
