FRANCIS II. (1768-1835). Austrian emperor and the last of the Holy Roman Emperors; father of Maria Louisa, Napoleon’s second wife. DS. 15 1/3 pp. Folio. Vienna, June 12, 1801. In German. Title, on vellum, elevating the orientalist and diplomat Ignaz Stürmer (1752-1829) to the nobility. The appointment mentions numerous stages in his career, among them his collaboration in the “New edition of Mininsky's Grand Dictionary, as ordered by the Prince.” With a full-page painted coat-of-arms in gold, silver and colors and calligraphic ornamentation with vines and rich ornate initials, the first pages with engraved frame ornamentation. Bound in red velvet with slight damage to the printed portion; lacking the seal and several silk closures.
